Guest Post: Which Sites to Choose and Which to Avoid?

Total Comments:

Deciding where to get guest posts from and where to avoid them is a complex task. If you take one or two guest posts from the wrong site, it might not harm your site, but if you do it repeatedly, it could cause problems.

And since almost 90% of guest posts these days require payment, why waste money on poor-quality sites?

So, let’s take a closer look at how to determine which sites are good for backlinks and which ones to avoid.

Sites to Avoid for Guest Posts:

There’s a long list of sites to avoid, but here are the major ones:

  1. Sites with little to no traffic sites with traffic below 500, according to Ahrefs.
  2. Sites that have had a sudden drop in traffic and haven’t recovered. If traffic is improving, it might be okay, but if the traffic drops repeatedly, avoid it.
  3. Sites unrelated to your niche: while multi-niche sites are okay, it’s best to avoid them if you can.
  4. Sites that mark guest posts as “sponsored posts” can hurt your SEO value.
  5. Sites that openly advertise guest posts, for example, sites where someone advertises guest posts in a Facebook group. It’s considered bad practice to take guest posts from such sites.
  6. Sites run by service sellers, even if the site is fresh, it’s best to avoid guest posts from people who sell services unless they are doing proper outreach for you.
  7. Ask if the site owner has other sites. If someone offers you a guest post, ask if they have more sites. If they say yes, check them out. If all their sites have low traffic (below 500), it’s better to avoid guest posting on them.

That’s the basics for now.

Where to Get Guest Posts:

Here are a few points about where you can confidently take guest posts:

  1. Sites that don’t have the above issues: If none of the red flags apply, you can safely take a guest post from that site.
  2. Sites with low traffic but are growing: If you see a site with lower traffic but it’s on an upward trend, you can consider guest posting there.
  3. Sites ranking for money keywords: According to Ahrefs, if a site ranks in the top 1–3 positions for keywords like “best ,” it’s a good place to get a guest post.

Guest Post Myths:

  1. Older sites are better for guest posts: This is a misconception. You can take guest posts from newer sites as long as they have traffic.
  2. DA and PA matter: One of the biggest mistakes is focusing on Domain Authority (DA) and Page Authority (PA) when choosing sites. Don’t use DA/PA as a decision-making factor. It’s a flawed metric.
  3. Longer guest posts are better: Not necessarily. A well-written guest post of 700+ words is usually enough. However, you should check the site’s other informational articles to match their standard. If you’re having someone write the article for you, show them an example from the target site and explain what’s required.
  4. Cheap guest posts are okay: Another common mistake. You might think, “Why care about the article quality if I’m just paying for the guest post?” This is wrong. Instead, you should do keyword research and write (or have someone write) a quality article with an eye-catching title. Even informational articles can rank well. If your guest post ranks, it’s a huge positive for your site.

Was this too long? Okay, I’ll stop here for now. If you like it, let me know. I’ll be encouraged to write more in the future, Insha’Allah.
