1. Introduction
Welcome to ScrollMeter, a Chrome extension developed by Md Billal Hossain Sarker and published under AuthorityAid.
ScrollMeter helps users estimate their Facebook activity by tracking browser-based activity signals, scroll movement, encountered post types, and clicks on engagement controls. It presents these estimates through a personal dashboard so users can better understand their Facebook browsing habits.
Your privacy matters to us. This Privacy Policy explains what information ScrollMeter processes, how that information is used, where it is stored, whether it is shared, and how you can manage or delete it.
ScrollMeter is designed to keep its activity data on your own device. The extension stores its usage counters locally in Chrome and does not transmit those counters to the developer or any third party.
By installing or using ScrollMeter, you acknowledge that you have read this Privacy Policy and understand how the extension processes information.
2. Scope of This Privacy Policy
This Privacy Policy applies to the ScrollMeter Chrome extension and its processing of Facebook browsing activity for the extension’s user-facing features.
It covers:
- Information processed while ScrollMeter is enabled on Facebook.
- Activity metrics and aggregate counters generated by the extension.
- Local storage of information in Google Chrome.
- How the information is used and whether it is shared.
- Your options for pausing tracking and deleting stored data.
- The limitations of ScrollMeter’s activity estimates.
This policy describes the intended behavior of the current version of ScrollMeter. It does not automatically apply to other AuthorityAid products, services, or websites unless explicitly stated.
3. Information ScrollMeter Processes
ScrollMeter processes limited browser-interface information to calculate activity estimates and display them in your personal dashboard.
3.1. Estimated Active Time
While ScrollMeter is enabled on Facebook, the extension uses browser activity signals, including tab visibility, focus, and recent activity, to estimate the time you spend actively using Facebook.
The resulting metric is an estimate of activity time. It is not a guaranteed measurement of your attention, actual screen viewing, or engagement with every item displayed.
3.2. Scroll Movement
ScrollMeter processes changes in the browser’s scroll position to estimate how far you scroll through Facebook content.
It records scroll movement as an aggregate metric, such as estimated scroll pixels. This figure represents browser scroll movement and does not represent a physical distance traveled.
3.3. Post-Type Information
ScrollMeter processes page-interface elements to identify encountered post types and related content indicators.
The extension uses these signals to maintain aggregate post-type counts for the personal dashboard. These counts may not represent every post encountered on Facebook.
3.4. Engagement-Control Clicks
ScrollMeter processes labels or text associated with engagement controls that you click, such as Like, Comment, and Share controls.
It uses these signals to maintain aggregate click counts for the dashboard.
A recorded click indicates that an interaction with a recognized control was detected. It does not establish that Facebook successfully completed the requested action.
3.5. Daily Aggregate Counters
ScrollMeter stores daily aggregate metrics, which may include:
- Estimated active time in milliseconds.
- Estimated scroll movement in pixels.
- Counts of detected post types.
- Detected Like-control clicks.
- Detected Comment-control clicks.
- Detected Share-control clicks.
These counters support the extension’s personal activity dashboard and its usage estimates.
ScrollMeter does not intentionally store the underlying Facebook post text, comment text, private messages, passwords, Facebook login credentials, or Facebook cookies.
4. Information ScrollMeter Does Not Collect for Its Dashboard
ScrollMeter is designed to provide personal activity analytics without requiring users to create an account or submit their activity data to a remote server.
The current version does not provide account-based or cloud synchronization functionality.
The extension does not intentionally collect or store the following information as part of its activity-tracking features:
- The full text of Facebook posts.
- The text of comments.
- The contents of private messages.
- Facebook passwords or login credentials.
- Facebook cookies.
- Personal activity records for sale to advertisers or other third parties.
ScrollMeter processes certain page-interface signals to generate aggregate counters. This processing should not be confused with collecting and maintaining a complete history of the Facebook content you view.
5. How ScrollMeter Uses Information
The information processed by ScrollMeter is used solely to provide its disclosed activity-tracking and analytics features.
Specifically, the extension uses the information to:
- Estimate your active Facebook browsing time.
- Calculate estimated scroll movement.
- Count recognized post types encountered during browsing.
- Count detected clicks on Like, Comment, and Share controls.
- Display aggregate usage information in your personal dashboard.
- Help you review your own Facebook browsing activity.
ScrollMeter does not use these activity counters for advertising, third-party profiling, or the sale of user information.
The extension’s current functionality is intended for personal awareness and usage tracking, not for monitoring other people.
6. Local Storage and Data Security
6.1. Local Storage in Chrome
ScrollMeter stores its activity counters in Chrome’s chrome.storage.local storage area.
This means the extension’s stored activity metrics remain within the browser’s local extension storage rather than being transmitted to a remote server by the extension.
The current version does not provide an account, remote activity database, or cloud synchronization service for these counters.
6.2. No Transmission to the Developer
The extension’s code does not transmit the activity counters or associated tracking information to the developer or any third party.
ScrollMeter does not upload these counters to AuthorityAid servers as part of its disclosed tracking functionality.
6.3. Security Considerations
Keeping activity counters in local browser storage reduces the need to transmit personal usage information over the internet.
However, no software or storage method can be guaranteed to be completely secure. The security of your device, browser profile, operating system, and any other software installed on your device remains important.
We recommend keeping Chrome and your operating system updated and protecting access to your device.
7. Data Sharing and Disclosure
ScrollMeter does not sell or share its locally stored activity counters with advertisers or other third parties.
The current version of the extension does not transmit this information to the developer or external services.
The extension’s activity-tracking functionality is not designed to provide third parties with your personal Facebook browsing analytics.
Because ScrollMeter does not transmit its activity counters to the developer or a third party, the developer does not receive those counters through the extension’s disclosed tracking functionality.
This statement concerns the extension’s processing of activity information. It should not be interpreted as a claim that Facebook or other independently operated services do not process information under their own policies.
8. Advertising and Third-Party Profiling
ScrollMeter does not use its activity counters to deliver advertisements or build profiles for third-party advertising purposes.
The extension does not sell activity information or transfer it to third parties for advertising.
Its purpose is limited to displaying the user’s own Facebook activity estimates and aggregate statistics.
9. User Controls and Data Deletion
You remain in control of whether ScrollMeter tracks activity and whether its stored counters remain in your browser.
9.1. Pause Tracking
You can pause tracking through the toggle in the ScrollMeter popup.
When tracking is paused, the extension’s tracking feature can be disabled until you choose to enable it again.
If you want to stop activity tracking temporarily, use this toggle.
9.2. Delete Stored Counters
You can delete all stored ScrollMeter counters through the Settings section in the extension’s popup.
Deleting the counters removes the stored activity metrics used by the personal dashboard. You may lose previously accumulated statistics that have been deleted.
If you want to clear your stored ScrollMeter activity data without uninstalling the extension, use this deletion option.
9.3. Uninstall ScrollMeter
Uninstalling ScrollMeter also removes its extension storage as managed by Chrome.
If you uninstall the extension, its locally stored activity counters will no longer be available through ScrollMeter.
9.4. No Remote Deletion Request Is Required
Because the current version does not transmit its activity counters to the developer or maintain a cloud account for this information, you can manage or delete these counters directly in the extension.
You do not need to contact the developer to delete locally stored ScrollMeter counters.
10. Data Retention
ScrollMeter stores aggregate activity counters locally in Chrome so that they can be used by its personal dashboard.
The current version does not provide a remote database or cloud account for retaining these activity counters.
Stored information remains available in local extension storage until it is deleted through the extension’s Settings, removed through the applicable browser storage lifecycle, or removed when the extension is uninstalled, as managed by Chrome.
Users can use the extension’s deletion option to clear all stored ScrollMeter counters.
11. Accuracy and Limitations of Activity Metrics
ScrollMeter provides estimates based on browser-interface signals. Its metrics should not be interpreted as exact measurements of attention, content consumption, or completed Facebook actions.
11.1. Active-Time Estimates
Browser tab visibility, focus, and recent activity can help estimate active usage, but they cannot establish with certainty that you were continuously looking at or paying attention to Facebook.
The displayed active time may differ from your actual attentive viewing time.
11.2. Scroll Estimates
Scroll distance is calculated from browser scroll movement.
It does not represent physical travel distance, the total length of content read, or proof that you viewed every item passed during scrolling.
11.3. Post Detection
Post-type detection depends on the page elements and interface signals available to the extension.
Some posts may not be recognized, and some classifications or counts may be incomplete or inaccurate.
11.4. Engagement Clicks
ScrollMeter counts detected interactions with recognized engagement controls.
A click does not guarantee that Facebook completed the corresponding action. For example, a detected Like click does not necessarily mean that the post was successfully liked.
11.5. Changes to Facebook
Facebook may change its page structure, interface elements, labels, or interaction behavior.
Such changes can affect ScrollMeter’s ability to detect post types, scroll activity, or engagement-control clicks.
Accordingly, ScrollMeter should be used as a personal activity-estimation tool rather than as an authoritative record of every browsing action.
12. Children’s Privacy
ScrollMeter is designed as a personal browsing-activity analytics tool. Its current functionality does not require users to create an account or submit activity counters to the developer.
The extension is not intended to collect children’s personal information for advertising or third-party profiling.
If the extension’s functionality or data-processing practices change in a way that affects this statement, this Privacy Policy will be updated as appropriate.
13. Your Privacy Rights and Choices
Depending on your location and applicable law, you may have rights concerning personal information processed about you.
ScrollMeter’s current local-storage design allows you to exercise direct control over its stored activity counters by pausing tracking, deleting the counters in Settings, or uninstalling the extension.
Because the extension does not transmit these counters to the developer or a third party, the developer does not maintain a remote copy of those counters through the extension’s disclosed tracking functionality.
For questions about this Privacy Policy, you can visit the AuthorityAid website listed in the Contact Information section below.
14. Permissions and Technical Functionality
ScrollMeter uses browser-interface signals and Chrome’s local extension storage to provide its disclosed features.
Its activity-tracking functionality processes relevant information while enabled on Facebook, and its local storage supports the personal dashboard.
The permissions and technical capabilities requested by the extension should be understood in the context of these features. This Privacy Policy does not expand the extension’s intended purpose beyond personal Facebook activity estimates and analytics.
Users should review the extension’s permission disclosures in the Chrome Web Store before installing it.
15. Chrome Web Store Limited Use Compliance
ScrollMeter’s use of information received from Facebook pages is limited to providing its disclosed user-facing Facebook activity and scroll-analytics features.
The extension does not sell this information or transfer it to third parties for advertising.
ScrollMeter processes relevant browser-interface signals to calculate activity estimates, scroll movement, post-type counts, and detected engagement-control clicks. It stores the resulting aggregate counters locally in Chrome.
The extension’s current design does not transmit these activity counters to the developer or any third party.
We aim to keep ScrollMeter’s actual functionality, its Chrome Web Store disclosures, and this Privacy Policy consistent with one another.
16. Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy when ScrollMeter’s features, technical implementation, or data-processing practices change.
Any updated policy will be published at the stable public URL used for ScrollMeter’s Privacy Policy.
The effective date at the beginning of the policy will be updated when a new version takes effect.
If a change materially affects the information ScrollMeter processes, how it is used, or how it is stored or shared, the revised policy will describe those changes.
We encourage users to review this page periodically to remain informed about ScrollMeter’s privacy practices.
